Thanks in large part to a successful brand-recognition marketing initiative, Vizio in the fourth quarter became the second-best-selling flat-panel TV set maker in the country, according to iSuppli. Vizio has announced that it will get out of the plasma-TV business, concentrating instead on bringing new innovations to market with its line of LCD models, according to Laynie Newsome, who co-founded the company five years ago. The company’s departure leaves LG, Samsung and Panasonic as the only large-scale makers of plasma-TV screens being offered in the U.S. The New York Times (2/11)
