In launching the LG Incite, AT&T has introduced LG’s smartphone handsets to the U.S. with a device designed for the on-the-go professional. Motorola pointed to improved sound quality on its new MOTO VE66 slider phone, the handset maker’s first mobile device that integrates the use of widgets. At least one research company says it believes Google‘s Android open-network software for cell phones will spur greater consumer interest in smartphones and encourage wireless carriers to push even further to create a standard mobile platform. In a new report, ABI Research said one benchmark of Google’s success would be recognition among operators and handset makers in the value of creating a common platform. InformationWeek (10/9)
