It’s nice to have Stephen Spielberg in your corner. DreamWorks won the battle for the rights to adapt the famed Japanese cyberpunk manga Ghost in the Shell into a 3-D live action thriller after Spielberg took a personal interest in the project, reports Variety. DreamWorks beat out Sony and Universal, who were also chasing the property. “Ghost” is best known to American audiences by the anime adaptations directed by Mamoru Oshii. It also inspired the Wachowski Brothers to create The Matrix trilogy. (Cynopsis 4/16)
