3-D TV — despite some significant roadblocks that include a lack of industry standards and online-streaming issues — is gathering buzz on a number of fronts in the TV community. ESPN, for one, has conducted a number of tests, and the network’s Chuck Pagano remains somewhat hopeful: “From our judgment, when the fans see it, they’re going to be blown away by it. Verizon Communications has developed an Internet phone, dubbed the Hub, that goes beyond current IP-based devices by delivering video and information-based features — compatible with its wireless network — to the home. Designed to retain wireline customers, Verizon Wireless will sell the Hub at its outlets for $199 — with a contract and rebate — plus a $35 monthly fee, according to the company. Bravo launched Top Chef: Tour De Force, a mobile tournament in which the cast of Top Chef 5: New York competes in a series of challenges designed to test their speed, taste and culinary imagination. Nokia’s possible plans to cut prices and re-enter the South Korean market has LG Electronics looking over its shoulder, a company executive conceded Monday, but he insisted that LG’s overall outlook this year was solid. Here are some important specs just released from AT&T for those waiting for the 3G iPhone. The 3G network, ready now in 275 markets and in 350 markets by year end, will be capable of speeds of up to 1.4 Mbps down and 800 Kbps upstream. Google co-founder Larry Page traveled to Washington, D.C. yesterday to lobby Congress to allow unlicensed mobile devices to share digital TV white space with local TV stations, reports B&C. T-Mobile USA on Tuesday introduced Nokia’s latest music-enabled mobile phones, the 5310 Xpress Music and the 5610 Xpress Music handsets. The phones, which originally launched in Europe, are now making their U.S. debut, where T-Mobile USA is the only wireless company licensed to sell the products in the country. (CNET 5/20)

Looking to boost sales outside its traditional product lines, French luxury-goods maker Christian Dior is coming out with a line of mobile phones that will be targeted to fashionistas worldwide, particularly in the Russian and Chinese markets. AT&T will allow its 3G data-service customers to access the Internet free via its Wi-Fi network at its 17,000 U.S. hotspots, the company announced Tuesday. It opened the offer to Laptop Connect subscribers, who pay at least $60 a month for data over its HSDPA and EDGE networks. (CNET 5/20)
