I’m still not sure if the Twitter stream is the right place to be for advertising, but with the way the company set out to make it easy for developers to build upon their platform with open APIs, it’s no wonder so many ad networks have sprung up since it got started. Its massive growth and the fact that the San Francisco startup is a media and celebrity darling probably helped in that regard, too. (Techcrunch10/20)

The big, obvious take away from Apple’s Q4 earnings report earlier today was that it once again crushed the estimates. And not just its own forward-looking estimates, which are always laughably low, but even the estimates of the most optimistic analysts — by a lot. (Techcrunch10/20)

BACK WITH A VENGEANCE: DAILY MARAUDER RETURNS
So, we’ve been off for a while. A lot has changed since June when last we left you. The Housewives from NJ taught us new phrases like shkeeve and bubbies.

Teresa Giudice from The Housewives of NJ
The Emmys lost more viewers. Glee gave us a second episode. The Hills and The City returned and Whitney tried to explain to us how superficial her ex-city was while rocking head-to-toe designer duds. Evan Rachel Wood’s lipstick on True Blood hurt our eyes but Jason made it all better. Our favorite character on aforementioned show died. Blerg.
I rode my bike 545 miles from San Francisco to LA to raise money and awareness for the AIDS Foundation.

Team Ralph Lauren
My bike was stolen two months later in Brooklyn after a 70 mile training ride. Nards! Speaking of which, should this happen to you check out Craigslist and watch the site for at least a couple of weeks. Bikes have been known to magically re-appear there.
Daily Marauder then went from Manhattan to Brooklyn to Los Angeles via cross country road tip in a Honda that has since hit 202,000 miles. If that doesn’t speak to the resale value, I don’t know what does.

The highlight of the trip:

Otherwise known as, visiting my grandfather’s house in KY.
Opposite coast, new office, same team, new view.

So now, the site you’ve come to love, or at least like a little bit, is back. For the next few weeks, we will be testing out a bit of new creative and a few different strategies on posts until we get it just right. Yes, like Goldielocks, we aim to please. So, until we get it right, we may or may not post every day and the format could change while we work out the kinks.
P.S. Don’t see Paranormal Activity, unless you also like sleeping with every light on in your house.

Officials say Colorado parents concocted the story that their young son was trapped in high-flying balloon to market themselves for a reality television deal. A yet-to-be-named “media outlet” that blurs “the line between entertainment and news” may be a conspirator. (Iwantmedia 10/19, Yahoo News 10/19)
Discovery’s TLC is filing a lawsuit against Jon Gosselin, the co-star of its smash reality show “Jon & Kate Plus 8.” The suit charges that Gosselin violated his contract by taking paying gigs from other television shows, including CBS’ “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider.” (Iwantmedia 10/19, LA Times 10/19)

YouTubeentered into a landmark programming deal with the UK’s Channel 4to make a broad variety of catch-up programming available on YouTube’s British site after it initially airs. Full episodes of shows such as Skins, Hollyoaks, The Inbetweeners and Peep Show will be available in the coming months on the “4oD” VOD service, in a addition to a selection of some 3,000 hours of programming from Channel 4′s archive. YouTube will be permitted to sell ads around the content and the British broadcaster will also deploy its own digital sales force to help monetize the platform. The deal is the first time YouTube, which is now serving 1 billion video streams per day, has tied up with a major broadcaster to feature long-form content. (Cynopsis 10/19)
This is the best thing to happen to online video in a very long time. Peep Show is imaginative witty, and hella funny. Check out the original before the Americanized version bastardizes it.
Seattle-based web-based retailer Amazon.com is feeling the pressure from a brick-and-mortar competitor. WalMart.com kicked off a price war of sorts, cutting the price of high profile hardcover books including Stephen King’s upcoming Under the Domeand Sarah Palin’s Going Rougedown to $10 (including free shipping) per the WSJ. Amazon responded by cutting the prices of its top ten selling titles to $9 (setting the Kindle version of the books at the same price.) (Cynopsis 10/19)
Online news sites that aspire to charge users are unlikely to be successful, according to a study in Australia by Nielsen. News consumers “are not brand loyal.” A single provider introducing a paid-for model will likely result in “the provider being taken out of the competitive mix.” (Smarthouse10/16)
