Sprint Nextel hopes to launch next year a smartphone that will embrace three wireless modes, including WiMAX, CDMA and “more than likely” Wi-Fi, Sprint 4G marketing executive Scott Lane said Thursday. Lane said the phone — which will work over partner Clearwire‘s Clear WiMAX network — might be based on Google’s Android software, but said other operating systems also packed the processing power to fuel a WiMAX service. Facebook is in talks with Nokia on ways to integrate the social network into mobile phones made by the Finnish giant. It is unclear whether a deal will be reached, say people familiar with the matter. Nokia is deciding whether it wants to build a social network from the ground up.
