On Wednesday at 8 p.m., CBS will pre-empt “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” to air a special edition of “The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric.” The move is not intended as a tryout for a new show, CBS says. The broadcast aims to attract new viewers to the evening news. (Iwantmedia 1/23, http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/23/arts/television/23cour.html?_r=1 1/23)
Smells like desperation to me… I think the controversy surrounding Katie’s new haircut is more interesting than her news program.

General Electric is reporting that its fourth-quarter net income fell 44%. “We expect 2009 to be extremely difficult,” says CEO Jeff Immelt. HTC‘s new Touch Cruise handset can evolve from a smartphone into a GPS-based navigation device and includes a new geotagging feature so users can tag photos from tracking data and audio clips, the cell phone maker said. The Windows Mobile 6.1-based TouchFLO device has QVGA resolution instead of full VGA, and HTC will market it in the U.S. as a dual-mode HSDPA phone. PC Magazine (1/22)

By limiting his communications to senior staff and a small cadre of close friends, President Barack Obama will be able to retain his beloved BlackBerry, the White House said, meaning Obama will become the country’s first president who regularly uses e-mail. A spokesman said security — probably by way of heavier encryption — would be ratcheted up on the device. USA TODAY (1/22) , The New York Times (1/22) , MSNBC (1/22)

OBAMA-FY YOURSELF: LIKE ELF YOURSELF BUT WITH MORE OBAMA

You may recognize the above artwork from the much more popular version:

The above poster, as designed by artist Shepard Fairey, drove home President Obama’s message of hope with undertones of a propaganda-like spirit. Now you can apply the same creative spirit to your own photo. Click on the Marauder version above to head to Obamaiconme for some fun in red and blue.

The Sunday night premiere of “The United States of Tara” on Showtime attracted 880,000 viewers. That was better than the debuts of popular Showtime shows such as “Weeds,” “Dexter,” “The Tudors” and “Californication.” The Hollywood Reporter (1/21)
Click on the image below to watch the first episode. I personally can’t wait for the next one. Bravo Showtime.

“Trust Me,” a new series on TNT that debuts next week, features a fictional ad agency named Rothman Greene & Mohr. The interesting part is that during the show the made-up ad shop competes with real agency nameplates such as Leo Burnett and DDB for the right to market actual products, such as Unilever’s Dove line, which is a real sponsor of the TNT series.
