Epix — the pay-per-view movie channel created by Viacom, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Lions Gate Entertainment — initially will launch on a subscription-only broadband Web site in May, according to Mark Greenberg, chief executive officer of the joint venture. Greenberg said Epix executives were negotiating distribution deals with cable and satellite providers as well and hoped to bring the channel to television sets in October. NBC is attempting to lure younger viewers to Heroes by building a presence on teen-focused virtual site Habbo.com. NBC.com will extend its popular Heroes’ Evolutions offshoot offering fans the ability to interact with a new avatar Hero through a variety of in-game activities. The wait for the new Kindle may be much shorter than initially expected. Amazon is hosting a press event on Feb. 9 at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York, apparently to unveil the second generation eBook reader. Amazon’s first Kindle been sold out since before the holidays but the Amazon site has revised the suggested wait time for one from 11-13 weeks to 4-6 weeks. (Cynopsis 1/28)
Chris Hutchins, a former management and business strategy consultant who was laid off in early December, is looking to make the best of his predicament and a generally weak economy.

Illegal versions of Apple’s iWork 09 productivity software and Adobe’s Photoshop CS4 For Mac apparently contained “Trojan Horse” viruses that allow a remote user to take over the affected computers. The iWork Trojan, which about 20,000 people unwittingly downloaded off the Internet, was discovered last Wednesday, and the Photoshop bug, downloaded by about 5,000, was found Sunday. During a fun-filled night at the SXSW pre-party in NYC last night, a man handed me a flyer for this film. From Three-Time Academy Award ®-nominated producer Steve Kalafer, this film focuses on The Rainbow Family of Living Light. Never heard of it? Neither had I. This group has been gathering in a remote location in the woods to pray for world peace since 1972. It’s like Burning Man but will less nudity and more peace-signs. Groovy…
