Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” closed out its first season Tuesday night on a high note, attracting 2.21 million viewers and putting up a 2.02 household rating, according to Nielsen Media Research. Next Tuesday at 10p, Starz will premiere a new series exploring the links between Hollywood and the fashion industry with Starz Inside: Fashion in Film. A&E Network slated the premiere of its original scripted drama series The Beast, starring Patrick Swayze and Travis Fimmel for January 15 at 10p. Beginning today, Time Warner Cable is adding a total of 24 high-definition channels in the Los Angeles area. Will the music subscription business ever grow beyond its current niche? It looks increasingly doubtful. Today, eMusic announced that since it launched its current music subscription service in 2003, customers have downloaded 250 million songs. Apple’s iTunes, by comparison, has sold more than 5 billion songs

CBS will extend the Victoria‘s Secret Fashion Show event to multiple platforms. Multiplatform men programmer RipeTV has teamed with Ultimate Fighting Champion creator Art Davie to come up with an entirely new sport created exclusively for digital: XARM fighting. Yahoo appears to be quite serious about openness and promoting third party content and applications on their massively visited home page. Today they’re announcing the addition of an eBay widget to the new Yahoo home page, which is still being tested with just a subset of Yahoo users. The Interactive Advertising Bureau
and PricewaterhouseCoopers just released their quarterly report on U.S. online advertising revenues. For the quarter, they estimate online advertising revenues were almost $5.9 billion ($5.865 billion, to be exact), which is an 11 percent increase from the same quarter a year ago and a 2 percent increase from the second quarter of 2008. CBS Mobile has teamed with Qualcomm‘s MediaFLO mobile TV service to create a 24/7 channel for the event, to be broadcast live on CBS on Dec. 3rd this year. Microsoft has added a new twist to its $14.99-a-month Zune Pass subscription service, allowing users to permanently keep 10 songs each month. 3-D video could be the next big thing for HDTV makers, according to a study by Quixel Research. Three-quarters of those participating in the study said they had had a positive 3-D experience recently and nearly half said they would like to do so in the comfort of their own home. TWICE (11/19)
In a good news/bad news scenario for set-top box manufacturers, a new study from ABI Research suggests that global STB shipments will rise to 110 million units by 2012 before beginning a gradual decline after that.
