The third-season premiere of “Hannah Montana” on Sunday pulled in 5.5 million viewers, about 2 million more than the number of people who tuned in for the beginning of the show’s second season and its highest viewership draw in more than a year. According to Nielsen Media Research, the show, starring Miley Cyrus, attracted 2.6 million 6- to 11-year-olds and 2.4 million 9- to 14-year-olds. Multichannel News (11/4)
RCN’s “Project Analog Crush” — the all-digital service the company has been rolling out in its systems around the country — helped the cable provider add 3,000 new video customers and 31,000 revenue-generating units in the third quarter. Lawyers representing NBC Universal and Bravo have asked a U.S. District Court judge to send the “Project Runway” lawsuit back to the New York State Supreme Court, where it was originally filed. NBCU filed the suit against The Weinstein Co. for moving the show from Bravo to Lifetime Television without giving NBCU right of first refusal. Multichannel News (11/4)

Hitwise has released a ranking of some of the top news sites, measured by traffic on Election Day. CNN.com came out on top, seeing a 146 percent spike over the day before. But MSNBC.com, Fox News, and the Drudge report all saw nice bumps as well. ABCNews.com had a record day, with a 113 percent jump in traffic over the day before. And CNN’s Political Ticker blog by itself saw a 122 percent jump. (Twitter traffic rose 43 percent and traffic to Twitter Election 2008

Comscore says they averaged just 5 million unique daily visitors in September, so this is more than 5x normal traffic. Time Warner reported its third quarter results today and revealed that the AOL
business isn’t doing too well but not as bad as some had expected (though it’s bound to get worse this quarter). Total revenues for Time Warner Cable remained flat compared to the same period in 2007 at $11.7 billion with earnings of 30 cents a share, while revenues for the AOL segment decreased 17% ($207 million) to $1.0 billion. Ad spending is hurting (6% decrease to $33 million), as are revenues from subscription services (26% decrease to $165 million). . Nearly 60% of users have incomes of $93,000 or more. Executives with an average income of $104,000 make up 28% of the 2,000 random users polled for the study. at TechCrunch50 earlier this year, he ran into MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe in the hallways. DeWolfe expressed interest in the show. Sony has launched a new audio CD format dubbed Blu-spec, which apparently allows users to burn discs with the Blu Laser Diode system without losing compatibility with existing CD drives.
