Microsoft and Epic Games have announced that “Gears of War 2″ is already a hit before it debuts on store shelves Nov. 7. “This is Epic’s best work yet, and we can’t wait to see the response from fans and newcomers to the series alike,” Epic Games Design Director Cliff Bleszinski said. Sony will not follow the lead of Microsoft in cutting prices on its most-advanced video game console, saying the PlayStation 3 — $399 for its basic model — is a much better value than competing platforms at half the price. Microsoft recently reduced its lowest-price Xbox console to $199, but Kazuo Hirai, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, asserted in an interview that unlike the Xbox, the PS3 contains a hard drive and plays Blu-ray movies.
