The CW’s two-hour series debut of 90210 reached a high-water mark as the highest rated telecast of a scripted show for the network. Ratings results from Tuesday at 8-10p include a 3.0/9 among A18-34; 4.3/12 with W18-34; 2.6/7 among A18-49 and a 3.6/9 with W18-49. An encore of this premiere episode airs tonight at 8p. Television audience estimate results from Tuesday, night two of the 2008 Republican National Convention per Nielsen include a combined total viewer number of 21.5 million over six networks offering live coverage from approximately 10-11p: ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, FOX News Channel and MSNBC. The combined total among A18-49 viewers was 7.2 million. Nielsen did not release numbers from night one of the RNC since coverage was truncated due to Hurricane Gustav. (Cynopsis 9/4)

Ted Danson will join the cast of “Bored to Death,” a pilot being developed for HBO. In the show, Danson, who was nominated for an Emmy for his work on FX’s “Damages,” plays a magazine editor who is a mentor of sorts to a writer in Brooklyn who has a drinking problem and a penchant for private detectives. NBC approved a director-contingent pilot order for Lost in the ’80s, a 60m project from Bob Brush (The Wonder Years), per THR. The pilot, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Tantamount, is meant to be similar in tone to The Wonder Years, set 20 years later. (Cynopsis 9/4)
