What can you do with a Microsoft Surface touch-screen computing table, other than use it as an expensive interactive kiosk in AT&T wireless stores? Design shop VectorForm has a few ideas. It has been pumping out prototype Surface apps for the last five months, and now has a Surface blog to document it all. Here’s my favorite application (below), a DJ kit meets touch screen.  Just one idea for VectorForm: next time have someone cooler do the demo.  The pressed shirt and gold watch ruins it for me.

Sonance has announced a new line of speakers that includes a stylish model called Kayak. The speaker, which offers 60 watts of sound and 14 finishes, can be suspended vertically or horizontally from the ceiling. Pricing for the special-order speaker starts at $2,900. ElectronicHouse.com (8/20)

A new campaign for Microsoft by Crispin Porter + Bogusky starring Jerry Seinfeld is set to debut early next month. Microsoft reportedly is spending $300 million on the campaign, designed to counter the popular and effective “Mac vs. PC” campaign for rival Apple. The Wall Street Journal (8/21)

Resonant induction, a phenomenon that allows the transmission of power several feet without wires, is at the heart of new technology being developed by Intel Corp. that will theoretically enable people to recharge their CE gadgets wirelessly. The company will conduct a demonstration today to create a magnetic field that can transmit 60 watts of power two to three feet. International Herald Tribune (8/21)

Virtualization can lend many benefits to smart-home technologies by allowing a single computer to host many virtual machines. Virtualization can replace physical devices for home-entertainment systems or home-automation systems.
