Powerset has developed an algorithm that gleans meaning from phrases or partial sentences. Time Inc. plans to launch Maghound.com, a Netflix-like service for magazines, in September. Maghound will allow consumers to choose titles from different publishers for “subscriptions” where they pay one monthly fee and have the ability to switch magazines at any time. Addressable-advertising solutions being developed by Time Warner Cable will allow the company’s subscribers to see an ad during a show, get more information on the product being advertised and then return to the program. Twenty-five outfits worn by James Gandolfini in HBO’s The Sopranos were sold at a Christie’s charity auction yesterday which raised $187,750 for Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit that helps wounded soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
