Talks between Yahoo and Microsoft are focused on arriving at a value for Yahoo’s search business, and these discussions are likely to conclude in the “next week or so.” But Yahoo could still end up striking a search-advertising deal with Google if it fails to agree on terms with Microsoft. Yahoo became a member of the CBS Audience Network of publishers, joining many of the other large online portals including YouTube, AOL, MSN, Bebo and Fancast. The network distributes ad-supported short-form clips from CBS, CSTV and Showtime and with Yahoo will reach 92% of the US-based web audience. I tried some annotation fun out with one of my own videos. Note added speech bubble. These video annotations are very popular in Japan. It will be interesting to see if they take off in the U.S. as well.

Hockey fans streamed a record amount of game footage and highlights on NHL.com on Tuesday following Monday’s night’s classic triple overtime Stanley Cup thriller between the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Google is leasing 42.2 acres of land at a NASA research park near its Mountain View, Calif., headquarters to build more offices. The 40-year lease could be extended to 90 years.
