Shares of Sprint Nextel on Friday sunk $2.87, or 25%, to $8.70 after news that it planned to fire 4,000 employees and close some stores to cut costs as its customer base drops. The stock prices of AT&T and Verizon also dipped slightly after the announcement. “The broader question here is whether this is the tip of the iceberg in a deceleration of the U.S. wireless market over all,” said Craig Moffett, an analyst at Sanford C.
